Browns QB Jake Delhomme will start on Saturday against the Panthers after missing eight of the past nine games with an ankle injury. Rookie Colt McCoy, who had started the past five games for the team, is out with a high ankle sprain.

"I'm really excited about him playing," head coach Eric Mangini said Friday about Delhomme. "It's good for him to have this opportunity, especially against a team he has a lot of familiarity with."

Delhomme played for the Panthers from 2003-09, starting 90 games for the franchise. In two games this season, the QB has completed 33-of-60 passes for 324 yards, one TD and four interceptions.

The way we see it

The timing of Delhomme's recovery couldn't have been better, since he is needed now with McCoy sidelined. When the rookie returns to full strength, however, expect Delhomme to return to the bench.
