Although his numbers are down a bit this season, daily team observers agree that Rams P Donnie Jones deserves a Pro Bowl berth more than anybody on the team. “He’s really deserved it the last couple of years — especially when he became the first punter ever with a 50-yard gross and a 40-yard net two years ago — but you get noticed more when your team wins,” one daily team observer said. “He used to be just a thunder-foot, but with (Tom) McMahon as the special-teams coach, he has worked more on his directional kicking and has had some great performances.” One that sticks out was his Week 10 outing against the 49ers, when not one of his 10 punts was returned. “That was really something,” the observer said. “And the other big thing is that he’s had a calf problem in his kicking leg for a while now (since the fourth week of the season) and has still been so good despite barely kicking during the week.”
