The Giants added another wide receiver on Wednesday, claiming WR Devin Thomas off waivers one day after signing Michael Clayton.
They placed FB Madison Hedgecock on injured reserve to make room for Thomas.
Thomas was a second-round pick of the Redskins in 2008 and had 40 receptions for 445 yards and three TDs in two seasons. He played in four games without recording any stats for the Redskins before being waived and claimed by the Panthers. He played in just one game for Carolina and did not record a reception.
Hedgecock suffered a hamstring injury in Week Four. TE Bear Pascoe will remain the team's fullback.
The way we see it
With injuries to the team's top two receivers, Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith, the Giants hope to get something out of Thomas who has been an overall disappointment in the NFL. Their top receivers now are Mario Manningham and Derek Hagan, in addition to Clayton, the former Buccaneers starter. The Giants have lost back-to-back games and face the Jaguars' 28th-ranked passing defense on Sunday, so QB Eli Manning should have a good game no matter to whom he is throwing.
