Here's our weekly look at the contributions made by Browns rookies this season:

CB Joe Haden (first round): For the second consecutive week, Haden stepped into a role in the Browns' base defense because of injury and intercepted a pass. Filling in for Eric Wright, Haden notched three tackles, defended three passes and returned the interception, his third of the season, for 27 yards, setting up a 38-yard Phil Dawson field goal that gave Cleveland a 17-10 lead late in the third quarter. "He’s clearly one of our best players; he gets better every week," Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said of Haden last week. If Wright is unavailable vs. Carolina Sunday, Haden will get his second career start. And many more starts in Cleveland seem likely in Haden's future.

S T.J. Ward (second round): Ward, whose physicality has stood out in his first NFL season, intercepted a pair of passes at Jacksonville, the first picks of his career. The 5-10, 211-pound Oregon product leads Cleveland with 80 tackles (five in Week 12). Ward did whiff on a tackle attempt on RB Maurice Jones-Drew's 75-yard reception late in the fourth quarter, however.

QB Colt McCoy (third round): McCoy threw for 241 yards vs. the Jaguars, but S Sean Considine picked him off on the Jacksonville five-yard line in the final seconds to secure victory for the Jags. McCoy, who was sacked six times, suffered an ankle injury in the loss. More about McCoy's status for Week 12 could be learned Wednesday, when head coach Eric Mangini holds his next press conference.

OG Shawn Lauvao (third round): Lauvao made his first career start in Week 11, getting the call at right guard. He has appeared in four games this season.

SS Larry Asante (fifth round): He was waived on Sept. 4 and signed to the Browns' practice squad the next day.

WR Carlton Mitchell (sixth round): Mitchell has appeared in three games this season but has yet to catch a pass.

DL Travis Ivey (undrafted free agent): Waived from the roster on Sept. 4 and re-signed to the practice squad Sept. 5.

OL Paul Malecki (undrafted free agent): Malecki, who was signed to the practice squad Nov. 23, is back for his second stint in Cleveland. The Browns signed Malecki, a Pitt product who originally signed with Tennessee, to the roster Aug. 13 and waived him Aug. 31. The Buccaneers signed him to their practice squad on Oct. 26 and waived him Nov. 17.

RB Quinn Porter (undrafted free agent): The Browns signed him to the practice squad on Nov. 23. The Stillman (Ala.) College product had a stint on the Redskins' practice squad in November and was originally signed by Green Bay.

DL Brian Sanford (undrafted free agent): Promoted from the practice squad to the active roster on Nov. 13, Sanford has been inactive the last two games.

Notes: RB Montario Hardesty (second round, No. 59) is on injured reserve after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the Browns' final preseason game. ... DE Clifton Geathers (sixth round, No. 186) was waived by the Browns on Sept. 4. The Dolphins claimed him on Sept. 5, waived him from their roster on Sept. 14, re-signed him to the practice squad Sept. 15 and waived him from the practice squad Sept. 18. ... WR Johnathan Haggerty (undrafted free agent) was waived/injured on Aug. 16 with a foot injury and is currently on Cleveland's injured reserve list.
