Shawne Merriman hurt his leg in practice on Monday to knock him out of Week 12 action, and it seems that the linebacker may never suit up and play a down for the Bills.
Acquired on Nov. 3, Merriman has missed the first two games since he has been a member of the team with an Achilles injury. Head coach Chan Gailey had hoped the former Charger would be able to play in Week 12 vs. the Steelers, but after Monday's setback, that appears unlikely.
When asked if Merriman would play against Pittsburgh, Gailey said: "Don't see that. I don't see that this week," according to Joe Buscaglia of WGR radio.
The coach also said he's not sure if Bills fans will ever see Merriman play in their team's uniform.
"I think that would be something that I would have to address each and every week to see where he is and see what the doctors say and see what's going to happen with that," Gailey said. "I don't know that yet."
The way we see it
Signing Merriman was a risk from the start, so this really isn't much of a surprise. Injuries have held back the OLB for several years and it appears it may end his Bills career before he ever stepped on the field.
