Saints RB Pierre Thomas has not played since Week Three because of a high ankle sprain. The injury has kept him out longer than expected and has reportedly made head coach Sean Payton frustrated with the fourth-year back.

We now know why Thomas has been out for so long. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that Thomas tore a tendon in his ankle and probably should have undergone surgery to correct it.

Thomas has not ruled out playing on Thanksgiving against the Cowboys. Rookie RB Chris Ivory has been starting but the Saints get Reggie Bush back Sunday.

The way we see it

This recent news won't help Thomas' standing within the Saints' organization. Thomas will be a free agent this offseason and could be playing elsewhere in 2011.
