Following are some whispers we've been hearing from around the NFC West:

• There's no hiding the problems Cardinals former first-round OT Levi Brown has had this season protecting the passer. "Defenses have teed off on him consistently," said one daily team observer of Brown, who was selected fifth overall in 2007 when RB Adrian Peterson was there for the taking — a decision that has been questioned by more than a few critics in the Valley lately. "He's a good run blocker, but he just doesn't move his feet real well at all in passing situations."

• While it's far from a given, our Rams sources tell us there's a chance rookie WR Danario Alexander, who is on the mend from the fifth operation on his left knee, could play in the Week 12 game in Denver after resuming practice this week. "We're going to be careful with Danario," Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo said. "It was a few weeks back he had surgery, but it was nice to see him out there running around a little bit."

• We hear the Niners are pretty high on rookie LB Thaddeus Gibson, a fourth-round draft pick of the Steelers this year whom they wasted little time signing after he was released by Pittsburgh. "(Niners OT) Alex Boone, who played with him at Ohio State, just raves about him," said one team insider of Gibson. "He's fast, and he has savvy."

• Don't look for the Seahawks to re-sign free-agent-to-be WR Brandon Stokley, who has tailed off after a strong start in a Seattle uniform. "They wonder about his susceptibility to injuries and will probably be looking to upgrade in the slot with a younger guy," a team source said.
