Don’t be surprised if TE Delanie Walker, who had a team-high 80 receiving yards in the 49ers’ Week 10 victory over the Rams, becomes an increasingly key weapon the remainder of the season. Walker seemed to develop an instant rapport with Troy Smith, the team’s starting quarterback until further notice. “When (fellow TE) Vernon Davis was unable to practice when the team was in England, Troy immediately zeroed in on Walker, taking him aside and telling him that he wanted him to be his safety valve,” a team insider told PFW. “There’s a definite chemistry between them.” Walker always has been viewed as one of the team’s most naturally talented players, but until recently, he was considered a work in progress. “But as has been the case with (OLB) Manny Lawson, it’s like a light has come on for Delanie, both as a tight end and on special teams. He is really becoming a complete football player.”
