The Jaguars have claimed ex-49ers WR Jason Hill off waivers.
Hill was released by the 49ers when the team added PK Shane Andrus to temporarily fill in for the injured Joe Nedney.
Hill, a third-round draft pick by San Francisco in 2007, had struggled to find playing time over the past two seasons after reeling in a career-high 30 catches in ’08. The 6-0, 202-pound Hill has played in 32 games with two starts for the 49ers, including two games this season. His career totals include 40 receptions for 413 yards and four touchdowns. He also has made 29 special-teams tackles.
The way we see it
The Jaguars have struggled to find production from their current receiving corps, so taking a chance on the former high draft pick (No. 76 overall in ’07) makes sense for Jacksonville. More likely, his biggest impact, at least initially, could come on special teams.
