What are your projections for Vincent Jackson for the rest of the year? I am a proud Malcom Floyd owner who is concerned about his return eating into Floyd's value. Do you think he'll outperform Malcom Floyd fantasy-wise? Your thoughts?
That's a good question, Matt, and certainly one many fantasy owners are wondering right now.
I honestly think that Jackson is going to be a beast when he returns and pick up right where he left off in 2009. All reports indicate that he's kept in top shape, and he's looked dominant initially on the practice field. Plus, unlike most of the other guys on the field who have two months of wear and tear built up, he'll be entering as fresh as possible after sitting out to this point. When he returns to the field in Week 12 at Indy, I think he will look very similar to the guy who caught 68 passes for 1,167 yards and nine TDs last season and went to the Pro Bowl.
As for his impact on the rest of the offense, I actually think Floyd (assuming he's healthy) could continue to produce with V-Jax back. Although QB Philip Rivers' first two options almost certainly will be Jackson and Antonio Gates, Floyd will still be a dangerous deep threat, and he'll almost always be seeing single coverage. The Chargers are going to continue chucking it a ton, so there should be enough stats to go around. Floyd's catches could decrease, but he should still be a nice source of yardage.
I have been offered Ahmad Bradshaw and Jahvid Best for Chris Johnson and Sidney Rice. I don't have a solid No. 2 running back, so this would help me have two RBs, but I am reluctant to trade Johnson. I am in a standard 12-team league with no PPR. I worry that this trade could hurt me down the stretch and actually work against me if I make it to the playoffs.
This is definitely an intriguing offer, Sean, but like you, I would be very hesitant to make the trade.
I simply think too highly of Johnson to trade him unless I was getting an overwhelming offer. I think he's going to be very solid the rest of the way now that Randy Moss is there to spread defenses, and his schedule couldn't get much more favorable. He has the Redskins, Texans (twice), Jaguars, Colts (twice) and Chiefs left this season. I see him running over most of those defenses on his way to a monster finish.
Getting Bradshaw in return would be a solid pickup, but he's somewhat of an injury risk and has a bit tougher path remaining with the Vikings, Packers and Eagles (twice) left. I like him, but probably not enough to part with Johnson. Best, meanwhile, has done little since Week Two and might be proving that he doesn't have the chops to be an every-down NFL back. I don't really think he's going to be a solid fantasy starter during the second half, so trading for him might not help you much. I'd stick with what you have and enjoy CJ2K's production.
