The Steelers have released PK Jeff Reed and signed Shaun Suisham.
Reed, who was playing under the team's franchise tag at $2.8 million this season, has missed seven field goals on the season (he's made 15-of-22), including a 26-yard chip shot in the team's Week 10 loss to the Patriots. After the game, he got into a verbal confrontation with a fan while leaving the field.
Reed also missed a pair of kicks in the Week Four loss to the Ravens.
Suisham has been in and out of the league since 2005, most recently kicking for the Cowboys and Redskins last season. In his career he has connected on 87-of-110 field goals (79 percent) and 101-of-103 extra points (98 percent).
The way we see it
Head coach Mike Tomlin was loyal to Reed as long as possible but could no longer tolerate the inconsistency. Suisham has had his ups and downs in his career, as well, so the Steelers are taking a bit of a risk with this move.
