The Chargers signed SS Pat Watkins on Monday and waived WR Gary Banks.
Watkins, a fifth-year player out of Florida State, spent his first four seasons with the Cowboys. In 13 games in 2009, he finished second on the team with 18 special-teams tackles and added 22 on defense.
The way we see it
Watkins, a special-teams ace, should immediately help the Chargers' poor coverage units. With WRs Malcom Floyd and Legedu Naanee due back from injury this week, Banks was deemed expendable.
