The Dolphins will likely be without their top two quarterbacks — Chad Pennington and Chad Henne — for the rest of the season, so they are bringing in some free agents to compete for a backup job behind the expected new starter Tyler Thigpen.

Josina Anderson of FOX 31 and Inside the NFL reports that Miami has contacted the agent of JaMarcus Russell, hoping to work out the former Raider.

ESPN reporter Chris Mortenson said that vets Chris Simms, who was released by the Titans at the end of training camp in September, and Patrick Ramsey, who last started for the Redskins in 2005, may also be looked at by the Dolphins.

The way we see it

Thigpen is the assumed starter, no matter who the team opts to sign. The team is smart to explore their options and find the best free agent QB available, but expect them to make a move soon, as they play again in four days vs. a tough Bears defense.
