Following his DUI arrest on Friday morning, Broncos LB D.J. Williams has been benched, fined and stripped of his defensive captaincy.

The team issued a statement outlining the actions taken against the seven-year veteran:

"The Denver Broncos are extremely disappointed in D.J. Williams' careless and irresponsible actions on Friday morning. This type of behavior is taken very seriously by the organization.

"The Broncos have levied the heaviest fines possible to him for conduct detrimental to the club under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement due to the disruption and resulting impact on the team. He will not start in Sunday's game against the Chiefs and has been stripped of his captaincy for the season."

The heaviest fine possible is one game check, so Williams could be docked as much as $215,882.35, according to NFL.com. The Denver Post reported that the fine was closer to $15,000.

The way we see it

Williams was not benched for the entire Week 10 game, so expect to see him on the field vs. Kansas City at some point. Earlier this season following a DUI arrest, Jets WR Braylon Edwards was suspended for one quarter.
