No team has thrown for more than 255 yards in a game vs. Buffalo this season, but the team's pass defense is not as good as the numbers indicate. Coming off a season in which they picked off 28 passes (second in the NFL in 2009), the Bills have recorded only one interception in ’10 — when ILB Andra Davis grabbed a pass deflected by NT Torell Troup vs. the Jaguars in Week Five; no other NFL team has fewer than five interceptions. FS Jairus Byrd tied for the league lead in picks a year ago with nine, but he has been in a sophomore slump and doesn't even have a single pass defensed.
Head coach Chan Gailey thought the issue had more to do with the team's front seven than the secondary, saying, "Without a pass rush, you don't end up getting that many opportunities. If you don't stop the run, they don't have to throw it that much. All of that plays together." Still, the team may end up playing reserve CBs Reggie Corner and Leodis McKelvin more down the stretch, as they've shown big-play ability in their limited time on the field.
