Tim Jennings, now five games into his career as a starter for the Bears, has done enough to separate himself from a potential competitor for the job at left corner, we hear. Jennings replaced Zack Bowman as the team's starter at the position in Week Four against the Giants after Bowman had been benched the week before vs. the Packers when he failed to make an open-field tackle. Bowman, who led the Bears with six interceptions last season, returned to practice this week after missing the past two games with a foot injury, but he's not a threat to Jennings at this time. Head coach Lovie Smith is still down on Bowman. Jennings played the first four seasons of his career with the Colts before they decided not to extend a tender offer to him in the offseason, and he quickly has earned Smith's trust. He has made some mistakes in his starting stint, but Smith likes Jennings' ability to make tackles.
