Some in Charlotte are beginning to look ahead to next season with the Panthers struggling to dig out of a deep hole at 1-7, and one of the questions the team will face in the offseason is what to do with its personnel at linebacker.

Dan Connor, who was placed on injured reserve this week with a broken bone in his hip, played pretty well as the starting middle linebacker after Jon Beason moved from the middle to the weak side before the season. We hear the team still views Beason, who has gone to two Pro Bowls as a middle ’backer, as the player best fit to play in the middle, though.

Word is the Panthers intend to re-sign WLB Thomas Davis in the offseason, and if he's able to return to form after suffering two torn ACLs in less than a year, he will be starting on the weak side and Beason will remain in the middle. Connor could move to the strong side if James Anderson, who will be a free agent, departs.
