The Texans have claimed Jason Allen off waivers, a day after the cornerback was released by the Dolphins.
Allen, a five-year veteran, has three interceptions on the year and was a solid special-teams contributor for Miami, but he fell out of favor with Dolphins coaches after being benched earlier in the season and was replaced on the roster by ex-Packers CB Al Harris. He should see the field right away with the Texans, who have the league's worst pass defense, allowing more than 298 passing yards a game.
S Dominique Barber was placed on injured reserve after undergoing knee surgery, freeing up a roster spot for Allen.
The way we see it
Houston was smart to jump on the corner as soon as he hit waivers, as the team needs to improve its pass defense quickly if it wants to remain in playoff contention. Allen likes to take chances, which can both help and hurt his team, depending on his success.
