Bengals ORT Andre Smith likely will be out the remainder of the season after breaking his foot in practice on Wednesday, according to PFW correspondent and Cincinnati Enquirer reporter Joe Reedy.

Smith had his foot stepped on by a teammate during a pass-protection drill, forcing the second-year pro to be carted off. He has played in seven of the team's eight games in 2010 after only suiting up for six games all of last year following a long contract holdout.

"When he got stepped on and he turned at the same time it torques the foot," Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said. "It's a bad stretch of bad luck for him. It's what happens in football. Sometimes timing doesn't work out that way."

Reedy reports that Dennis Roland will get the start at the ORT spot in Week 10 vs. the Colts, with Anthony Collins serving as his backup. Roland started Cincinnati's first six games of the season. Collins has played in only two. He has been one of the eight inactive players the past five games.

The way we see it

Smith was playing the most consistent football of his pro career in the recent weeks, so this is literally a tough break for him. The Bengals' offensive line has been solid this season, allowing 14 sacks in eight games, though four came Monday night against the Steelers.
