I was offered Ray Rice for Brandon Marshall. I have Calvin Johnson, Wes Welker, Pierre Garcon, Lance Moore for WRs and BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Beanie Wells, Mike Tolbert, Ryan Mathews, Reggie Bush and Jonathan Stewart for RBs. I was thinking of accepting the trade and then trying to trade one of my other RBs for another receiver. Should I accept the trade? Thanks for your time!
It's a relatively close call, Todd, but I definitely would accept this trade.
I just don't trust Marshall as a weekly fantasy starter in the Miami offense. QB Chad Henne has been way too inconsistent, and it's led to a serious drop in production for his No. 1 target. Marshall has just one TD all year, and while he's still on pace for a 100-catch, 1,200-yard campaign, the big games haven't been there. He's really had only two outings all season that have been what we've come to expect from a player of his caliber. He might get things turned around, but I wouldn't be confident in it.
It's not like Rice has lived up to expectations, either, but at least he's shown more signs of life. He just had 180 yards from scrimmage last week, and he's been good for 80-plus rushing yards in five contests. The TDs haven't been there, but that could change at any time. Looking at your roster, you're in need of an impact RB, and Rice very well could be that guy. I'd make the deal.
I currently have Matt Ryan as my only quarterback. I have the opportunity to pick up David Garrard or Vince Young off of the waiver wire. Would you recommend me picking up one of these quarterbacks? If so, which one and would you start him over Ryan in Week 10?
Yes, I would pick one of them up, Mike, and yes, I would start him over Ryan. And that "him" would be David Garrard.
Garrard is quietly playing very solid football. He has thrown nine TD passes in his last three full games, compared to just one interception, and he's also added two rushing scores this year. He gets to face a Texans pass defense that ranks dead last in the league this week and has allowed 20 TD tosses already. The game is in Jacksonville, where Garrard always plays his best ball, so I like him quite a bit in this matchup.
Ryan simply has been too up-and-down, and he has a very tough game this week against the Ravens. I'd only use him this week if completely necessary. And while Young could be an OK start at Miami now that he has Randy Moss in his arsenal, he's less of a sure thing than Garrard, the guy you should start in Week 10.
