Cowboys DE Marcus Spears and S Akwasi Owusu-Ansah will be placed on injured reserve to clear roster space for DLs Jeremy Clark and Jimmy Saddler-McQueen.

Spears was expected to miss 4-6 weeks after suffering a left calf strain in Dallas' 45-7 loss to Green Bay on Sunday. Owusu-Ansah has been suffering from a high ankle sprain since Week Eight, and was still six weeks away from returning.

Clark played four games with the Giants in 2008, where he recorded four tackles, and was with the Cardinals in training camp before being released in their final cuts. Saddler-McQueen was with the Cowboys in training camp but was cut on Sept. 4.

The way we see it

Cowboys DT Jay Ratliff moved from tackle to end last week after Spears went down. Rookie DT Josh Brent could get the start at nose tackle if Dallas leaves Ratliff at end, otherwise DE Stephen Bowen could fill in.

The Cowboys will lose some juice on special teams without Owusu-Ansah, who has been their primary kick returner.
