The Bengals released TE J.P. Foschi and elevated TE Chase Coffman from their practice squad to the 53-man roster.
Foschi played in two games with Cincinnati this year but did not record a catch. He started 10 games for the Bengals a year ago, finishing with 27 receptions and two touchdowns, but lost playing time after the team drafted Jermaine Gresham in the first round of the 2010 draft.
Coffman was the team's third-round draft pick in 2009, but did not see the field during his rookie season and was cut following training camp this year. He was re-signed to the team's practice on Sept. 4.
The way we see it
Gresham is clearly the team's tight end of the future, but the Bengals coaches must like what they see out of Coffman in practice to give him a shot at the active roster if they are releasing a solid vet like Foschi.
