The Panthers placed QB Matt Moore and LBs Thomas Davis and Dan Connor on injured reserve Monday, ending the season for three of the team's veteran leaders.

Moore suffered a torn labrum in the team's Week Nine loss to the Saints after completing three of six passes. He was relieved by a pair of rookies, first Jimmy Clausen and then Tony Pike. Pike is expected to start the team's Week 10 game at Tampa, after Clausen was benched due to ineffectiveness.

Connor also went down in the New Orleans game, suffering a hip injury. He has been one of the few bright spots for the team with 47 tackles on the year.

Davis' season ends before it even began. He tore his ACL twice in a seven-month span, the latter of the two occurring during minicamp in June 2010. Davis attempted a comeback but never was healthy enough to play this season.

The way we see it

Head coach John Fox is likely on his way out following the season and will be playing the final eight games of the year with a young team on the field. The battle to watch is at quarterback, where Clausen has been given several chances to become the team's QB of the future but failed, leaving the door open for Pike to impress whoever coaches the team in 2011.
