Colts WR Austin Collie was carted off the field in the Week Nine game vs. the Eagles. Collie was hit by Eagles S Kurt Coleman and S Quinton Mikell coming across the middle and lay motionless on the field for several minutes as medical personnel tended to him.
Mikell was flagged for hitting a defenseless receiver on the play. Collie's body remained motionless as he was carted off, but he was blinking.
Collie returned to the field Sunday after missing time with a broken thumb.
Colts president Bill Polian told CBS that Collie was sitting up and alert in the team's locker room and it seems to only be a concussion.
The way we see it
It will be interesting to see how the NFL handles this. It was hard to see if Coleman led with his head to initiate the helmet-to-helmet contact (Eagles fans and players visibly disagreed with the call), but the hit was clearly violent enough that it led the back of Collie's head to fall hard to the turf. The Colts have already lost TE Dallas Clark and WR Anthony Gonzalez to season-ending injuries and are playing without RB Joseph Addai.
