In addition to activating OG Logan Mankins on Saturday, the Patriots released practice-squad ILB Tyrone McKenzie.

Reports indicate that McKenzie asked for his release to seek other opportunities.

The way we see it

McKenzie, the Pats' third-round pick in 2009, tore his ACL last season but was vying for a spot on this year's roster. The emergence of rookie ILB Brandon Spikes and the stellar, surprising play of several other linebackers (Rob Ninkovich, Gary Guyton and Shawn Crable, to name a few) made it difficult for McKenzie to crack the 53-man roster.
