With both Derek Anderson and Max Hall struggling more often than not so far this season, a big buzz is already brewing in the desert regarding the likelihood that the Cardinals will seriously scour the free-agent market for starting-caliber QB help for a second straight offseason. “There’s no question,” said one team insider. But as far as the team seriously looking into two of the bigger-name QBs expected to be available after the season — Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick — we hear there’s a good chance that won’t happen. “They’ve had their chances to go after McNabb before, but the (coaching) staff wasn’t big on him at all,” the insider said. “I don’t see Vick in the picture, either. When (head coach Ken) Whisenhunt was in Atlanta (interviewing for the Falcons' head-coaching job in January 2007), when they were trying to decide between Matt Schaub and Vick, he liked Schaub a lot better. I don’t know much about the other alternatives, but they have to do something.”
