Let’s get the bad news over with first: DE Ryan Pickett’s injured ankle remains far from healthy — a prognosis that doesn’t bode real well for the Packers’ run defense, which is normally spearheaded by the 10th-year veteran. The good news, however, is how well rookie C.J. Wilson has picked up the slack. From the moment the seventh-round draft pick took on an accelerated workload in Week Seven against Minnesota, after DE Cullen Jenkins came up lame in pregame warmups, Wilson has more than held his own playing end in the team’s 3-4 base and tackle in the nickel-sub package. What has impressed team insiders most about Wilson is that he hasn’t seemed overwhelmed at all by his increased responsibilities while showing steady improvement with every snap. Even with a fully healthy Pickett, look for the surprising Wilson to get a much heavier workload the rest of the season.
