Days after head coach Norv Turner said the Chargers were "happy with the guys we have" at wide receiver, the team has signed WR Kelley Washington, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
San Diego has been banged up at the position for several weeks and is still waiting for the return of Vincent Jackson, who can't play until Week 12. TE Antonio Gates also is hurting with a foot injury, leaving QB Philip Rivers with a shortage of dependable targets.
Washington is an eighth-year pro who has previously played with the Bengals, Patriots and Ravens. He played with Baltimore a season ago, catching 34 passes in 15 games.
The way we see it
Washington should be able to contribute right away for the Chargers, who face the Texans on Sunday before a Week 10 bye. Listed at 6-foot-3, he is a big target who can work the middle of the field and perhaps find open space in the defense.
