The Patriots announced Wednesday evening that they have signed a pair of rookies from the Southeastern Conference, ex-Tennessee QB Jonathan Crompton and ex-Alabama DL Lorenzo Washington, to their practice squad.
The team also placed WR Darnell Jenkins on the practice squad/injured list with a knee injury.
Crompton, a 6-3, 222-pounder, was originally selected by the Chargers in the fifth round in this past April's draft. He was waived by San Diego on Sept. 4. He finished his college career as the seventh leading passer in Volunteers' history.
Washington, a 6-4, 296-pounder, was originally signed by the Cowboys as a rookie free agent on April 25. He was waived by Dallas on July 29. He was a teammate of Patriots DL Brandon Deaderick on the Crimson Tide's national championship team in 2009.
Jenkins, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent, went to training camp with the Patriots but was waived on Sept. 4 and signed to the practice squad on Sept. 6.
