The Patriots will get a two-game roster exemption for OG Logan Mankins, according to PFW correspondent Ian Rapoport.
Mankins reported to the team today and signed his restricted free-agent tender after holding out for a new long-term contract. The Patriots can carry 54 players for the next two weeks, but they lose the exemption once Mankins becomes active.
The way we see it
The Pats are 6-1 without their two-time Pro Bowler, but Mankins' timing should allow him to be in game shape for the stretch run. The roster exemption allows the Pats to wait awhile before cutting someone. With injuries in the secondary they need those roster spots to help the defense.
