The Chargers waived LB Shawne Merriman on Tuesday after he passed an exit physical. They also placed WR Buster Davis (groin) on injured reserve and signed OT Adam Terry.

Merriman is now on the waiver list, along with WR Randy Moss, and teams have until 4 p.m. ET Wednesday to claim him.

The Chargers had placed Merriman, a three-time Pro Bowler, on injured reserve Oct. 13 with a "minor-injury" designation because of a calf injury.

Merriman had 39½ sacks in his first three seasons. He has had just four in the 2½ seasons since.

The way we see it

Merriman makes the next 24 hours very exciting for the waiver wire, with two former All-Pro players available. The Dolphins, Ravens and 49ers are among teams who reportedly are interested in Merriman.

Davis' injury is a blow to a depleted wide receiving corps with Malcom Floyd and Legedu Naanee also nursing injuries. Davis had 21 catches for 259 yards and a TD this season.
