Colts QB Peyton Manning is due for a contract extension, but according to team owner Jim Irsay, it will have to wait until the season is over.

Irsay said he wanted to offer the future Hall of Famer a contract that would make Manning the league's highest-paid player during the team's bye week, but the QB and his agents preferred to do it after the season.

"Any negotiation is a two-way street and we were ready to roll and we had a proposal, but they wanted to wait," Irsay told the Associated Press. "That's OK because every player is different. We had a bye week, and we thought we could have gotten [negotiations] rolling."

Manning's rival, Tom Brady, signed a four-year extension worth $18 million annually and $48.5 million guaranteed in September. Irsay said that Manning's deal will exceed that amount.
