The Steelers signed DL Steve McLendon from their practice squad on Saturday and released rookie LB Thaddeus Gibson.
With DE Aaron Smith (triceps) likely out for the season and DL Brett Keisel still nursing a hamstring injury, the Steelers' vaunted defense is hurting on the line.
McLendon played in Week Two and recorded one tackle. Gibson, a fourth-round pick in April, has yet to play in a stacked linebacking corps.
The way we see it
The Steelers' run defense is the best in the league but very different without Smith in the lineup. McLendon has been called up before due to injuries earlier in the season along the line. They play the Saints on Sunday night.
