In his brief time with the Texans, and in limited work, reserve RB Derrick Ward has produced in a big way, rushing for 141 yards and three touchdowns — including bursts of 33 and 38 yards — in 17 carries in four games entering Week Eight. Head coach Gary Kubiak has said Ward, released by the Buccaneers on Aug. 31, will get more work in relief of starter Arian Foster. Ward, 30, had a brief and forgettable tenure with the Bucs, and one evaluator, speaking on condition of anonymity in September, said there were concerns about both his speed and conditioning. But Ward has looked impressive with Houston, which signed him Sept. 3. With Ward slated for more carries, it will be interesting to see how many touches former starter Steve Slaton, listed as the top backup to Foster, gets, and there's some question whether there will be much work for him at all, we hear. Slaton has 19 carries and three catches in six games.
