USA Today reports that both Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas will miss the Saints' Week Eight game vs. the Steelers, the fifth consecutive game that New Orleans has been without its top two running backs.

Bush was hoping to return from the broken fibula he suffered fielding a punt in Week Two, but was never healthy enough to practice this week and was ruled out by head coach Sean Payton. Bush was able to do conditioning work and should be able to play in Week Nine vs. the Panthers.

Thomas has been out since spraining his ankle in Week Three and also did not practice this week. It is expected he will return after the team's Week 10 bye.

The way we see it

Drew Brees would have loved to have seen at least one of his top backs joining him on the field for this tough matchup with the Saints, but that's not going to happen. If the Saints are going to upset the Steelers, it will have to be with Brees leading them.

Fantasy Spin

Bush and Thomas owners are disappointed by this news, but those key players should be back shortly. Until then, it appears New Orleans will rely on Chris Ivory and Ladell Betts in the backfield.
