The Derrick Harvey experiment is over in Jacksonville. The Jaguars benched the only remaining member of the 2008 draft class last week and promoted a lesser-known former Florida Gator — DE Jeremy Mincey. Harvey's snaps had diminished before the benching, but we hear the last straw was when he failed to tackle Chiefs RB Thomas Jones on a 70-yard run up the middle in Week Eight. The Jaguars traded their first-round pick (No. 26 overall), a pair of third-rounders and a fourth-rounder to the Ravens to select Harvey No. 8 overall in '08. While former vice president for player personnel James "Shack" Harris receives much of the criticism for years of poor drafting, and rightly so, word is the decision to select Harvey falls on head coach Jack Del Rio and former DL coach Ted Monachino, who were both in love with the pick. The way we hear it, missing on Harvey and former Jaguars DE Quentin Groves has set the organization back significantly.
