The Rams have signed veteran SS Michael Lewis and placed DT Clifton Ryan on injured reserve.
Lewis was released by the 49ers on Oct. 4 after the former Pro Bowler requested to be traded or get cut when he began losing playing time to rookie S Taylor Mays.
Lewis joined San Francisco in 2007 and recorded 292 tackles in 50 games prior to his release.
By placing Ryan (migraines) on I.R., the Rams were able to clear a roster spot for Lewis.
The way we see it
Reserve S James Butler is out with a knee injury and the Rams were in need of depth at the position. Lewis is known as a run-stopping safety and could help bolster St. Louis' 15th-ranked run "D."
Ryan has been unable to contribute since suffering a concussion in Week One.
