Niners owner John York gave head coach Mike Singletary a vote of confidence Tuesday, the Sacramento Bee reported from London, where the team is preparing for an International Series game Sunday against Denver.
When asked if Singletary would remain the head coach throughout the rest of the season, York said, "Yes, he's our coach."
York disputed a Comcast Sports report that he and son Jed had grumbled about Singletary after the 49ers lost to Carolina 23-20 Sunday, falling to a 1-6 record.
"We were grumbling because we lost the game," John York told the Bee. "I think we grumble any time we lose a game."
Meanwhile, 49ers QB Alex Smith had an MRI at a London hospital, which confirmed that he had a sprained AC (acromioclavicular) joint in his non-throwing shoulder. That could mean that Smith has a separated shoulder. He suffered a Grade Three sprain in 2007.
Smith's availability for Sunday's game won't be determined until later in the week.
