Here's a look at how the Vikings' rookies fared in the Week Seven loss to the Packers in Green Bay:

CB Chris Cook (second round): He returned to action after a knee injury had kept him out, but Cook was beaten badly several times and was benched in favor of Frank Walker, who was picked up a few weeks ago. Cook played the nickel and was clearly the target of the Packers when he was on the field, allowing three big plays in the first and second quarters. He also was blocked at least 20 yards down the field on a screen play to RB Brandon Jackson. Not his best effort after a promising start to the season.

RB Toby Gerhart (second round): On the other hand, Gerhart had his best effort and received his most work to date. He rushed five times for 28 yards and had one reception for six yards, moving well with the ball and fighting for extra yardage. It was mildly surprising to see Gerhart on the field for half a dozen snaps in the final drive, with Adrian Peterson (who had 172 yards of offense) on the sideline. But Gerhart was in several packages, including nickel, and is doing his best to earn the coaches' trust to expand his role. His only negatives were not cutting an inside run out one gap and not coming down with what would have been a tough catch. His best game to date. Gerhart admitted afterward he was surprised to get as much action as he did.

DE Everson Griffen (fourth round): Griffen had been inactive for every game prior to Sunday when he made his quiet debut. He received no snaps on defense but made one special-teams tackle.

OG Chris DeGeare (fifth round): Played the previous two games before being inactive against the Cowboys and Packers. He'll be an every-week decision, in or out of the lineup based on injuries, depth, etc. The Vikings viewed him as something of a project and are not displeased with his progress so far.

QB Joe Webb (sixth round): Has been the emergency QB for all five games. A major work in progress with interesting potential.
