Here's a matchup to watch in the Week Eight game between the Patriots and Vikings:
Patriots CB Devin McCourty vs. Vikings WR Randy Moss
All eyes will be on Moss in his return to Foxborough. While we don't know who will be starting at QB for the Vikes, Brett Favre or Tarvaris Jackson, Moss will still be a big target no matter who is at the helm. Moss knows that he will often be manned-up by the rookie, McCourty, and will probably ask for the ball often with the confidence he can school the rook downfield, and the motivation to stick it to his former team.
McCourty came into this season battling for the team's third CB slot. After a season-ending injury to Leigh Bodden and struggles for Darius Butler in a Week Two loss to the Jets, McCourty is now the team's top corner. McCourty is physical, but he has had his share of rookie miscues this season. He picked off his first career pass on Sunday with an athletic play down the right sideline to intercept a Philip Rivers pass.
In four games with the Patriots, Moss had 22 targets. Through three games as a Viking, he has 23 targets. Many of those targets are coming on deep balls — Moss averages 14.5 yards a catch and has five TDs this season. McCourty has faced top receivers this season, but likely none who want to take it to the Patriots as badly as Moss will on Sunday.
