Ravens WR Derrick Mason had surgery on his broken right pinkie on Monday. He said on Fox 1370 Sports Radio in Baltimore that he will be ready for the Ravens' next game against the Dolphins in Week Nine.

Mason suffered the injury two weeks ago but waited until the bye week to have surgery. "I had surgery on it Monday. Put a pin in it, so it's good for me that we've got a week off — almost two weeks — so it allows my hand to heal," he said.

Mason hasn't missed a game since 2002. He played with the injury the last two weeks. Mason has 26 catches for 357 yards this season, second on the team behind Anquan Boldin.

The way we see it

Smart decision by Mason to wait until the bye week. The Ravens' new-look passing offense with Boldin could use a healthy Mason to help keep defenses honest, and the veteran has played well.
