The Buccaneers released TE Jerramy Stevens and promoted TE Ryan Purvis to the active roster.

Stevens was arrested on three drug charges, two of which are felonies, on Saturday night. He was held out of the Bucs' 18-17 win over the Rams on Sunday.

Stevens was the No. 2 tight end behind Kellen Winslow. He had three catches for 43 yards this season. The ninth-year veteran's best season was in 2005 with the Seahawks when he had 554 yards receiving and five TDs in 12 starts.

Purvis spent most of 2009 on the Bucs' practice squad after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Boston College.

The way we see it

This is not a surprise. Stevens could face jail time after his arrest, not to mention the awful timing of being arrested the night before a game. Veteran TE John Gilmore likely will be No. 2 behind starter Kellen Winslow.
