Dolphins rookie DE Jared Odrick (fibula) suffered a setback in Wednesday's practice while attempting to return to action and will be out for the rest of the season, according to multiple reports.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reported Wednesday night, and PFW correspondent Omar Kelly confirmed Thursday morning, that Odrick will miss the rest of the season after getting hurt again in Wednesday's practice. The Dolphins likely will place him on injured reserve.

Odrick was the Dolphins' top overall pick in April's draft. He suffered the hairline fracture of his right fibula in the season opener against the Bills. He got the start and recorded one tackle.

Odrick had the same injury in 2007 at Penn State. The Dolphins lost DE Phillip Merling to a torn Achilles tendon in July, and fourth-round pick LB A.J. Edds suffered a season-ending knee injury in July.

The way we see it

This is a huge blow to the rookie, whom the Dolphins were very high on coming into the season, giving him the start essentially from Day One. The D-line has played well without Odrick, with Randy Starks, Tony McDaniel, Kendall Langford and Paul Soliai rotating on the front line of the 3-4 defense. But Odrick showed real promise in the first game and there were thoughts he could return this Sunday against the Steelers. There is not a lot of depth behind the Dolphins' top four D-linemen.
