PFW presents the third of five key matchups this week in advance of the Packers-Vikings prime-time showdown at Lambeau Field Sunday evening.
Packers OLT Chad Clifton vs. DRE Jared Allen
Suffice it to say the Packers must do a better job this year against Allen than they did in the two games against Minnesota last season. All Allen did in 2009 was dominate the proceedings in both contests, registering 4½ sacks and a forced fumble in the first game and three sacks and four tackles for loss in the second game. In both cases, however, Clifton was sidelined, as Allen was initially matched up against Daryn Colledge in the first game and T.J. Lang, who was in his rookie season, in the second game.
Clifton has been very solid in the past three games for the Packers and appears to be much healthier than he was at any point last season. Allen, meanwhile, has registered only one sack so far this season but is coming off his best game of the year against Dallas, having registered three QB hits and looking like the same relentless force he was when he led the NFC with 14½ sacks in ’09. Performing before a national audience, Allen figures to be fired up to the hilt.
