Colts P Pat McAfee was arrested early Wednesday morning for public intoxication after being found soaking wet and shirtless near a canal located in a popular nightlife district in Indianapolis.

According to published reports, police said the second-year player, who was not driving, blew a 0.15 on a portable breathalyzer test, which is nearly twice the level for a person to be considered legally intoxicated.

Police had been alerted by a women who called police complaining that a man without a shirt approached her car at a red light, and that she feared he would try to enter her vehicle.

A police officer told the Indianapolis Star that McAfee may have been swimming in the canal, although no witnesses saw him in the water. The officer said that McAfee was taken into custody for his own safety.

McAfee, who was recently described to Pro Football Weekly by a daily observer of the team as a "laid-back jokester who doesn't take himself too seriously," has played in every game for the Colts this season. He set a team record by kicking six touchbacks in a single game on Sept. 26 vs. the Broncos.

In a statement received by The Associated Press, Colts president Bill Polian said the team is aware of the incident and  is gathering information.

"We are in the process of gathering the relevant facts," said Polian. "When that task is complete, we will deal immediately with the issue of club discipline. Until we complete that process, we will have no further comment."
