The Browns placed DRE Robaire Smith and ORT Tony Pashos on injured reserve and signed WR Yamon Figurs and OL Paul McQuistan, the club announced Wednesday. Smith has a back injury, while Pashos suffered an ankle injury in the Week Six loss at Pittsburgh.

Smith, 32, started five games for the Browns this season, notching 25 tackles. He missed Sunday's game at Pittsburgh with the injury, and Brian Schaefering took his spot in the starting lineup.

Pashos, 30, had started the last three games in place of John St. Clair, who has an ankle injury of his own.

Figurs, 28, most recently played for Oakland and has also had stints with Baltimore, Detroit and Tampa Bay. He has primarily contributed as a kickoff and punt returner throughout his career.

McQuistan, 27, has played for the Raiders and Jaguars and has 12 career starts, six at right tackle and a combined six at both guard spots.

The way we see it

The losses of Pashos and Smith weaken the Browns' depth up front. Here's a brief look at the situation along both lines after the injuries:

Offensive line: The signing of McQuistan gives the Browns a player capable of playing multiple positions, and ORG Floyd Womack can also play right tackle, which is a plus. Also, rookie ORG Shawn Lauvao played well in training camp, though he's yet to play this season, with an ankle injury keeping him out in the early stages of the campaign. The Browns have nine offensive linemen on the roster.

Defensive line: Schaefering figures to continue to start at right end in Smith's place. Injuries are a concern here, too, with NT Shaun Rogers (elbow) and DE Kenyon Coleman (knee) slated to miss practice Wednesday, head coach Eric Mangini reportedly said Wednesday. The Browns have six defensive linemen.

Figurs' return ability gives the Browns another option if WR-RS Joshua Cribbs (concussion) is out in Week Seven. WR Mohamed Massaquoi also has a concussion. Cribbs and Massaquoi are to miss practice on Wednesday, Mangini said, according to multiple media outlets.
