The Patriots filled an open spot on their practice squad Tuesday by signing S Ross Ventrone.

Ventrone, 5-8, 190, is an undrafted rookie out of Villanova. The Patriots signed him on Apr. 29, 2010 and waived him when rosters were cut to 53 on Sept. 4.

The way we see it

The Patriots lost CB Leigh Bodden and FS Brandon McGowan to injured reserve in the preseason. FS James Sanders was inactive for Sunday's win over the Ravens and FS Jarrad Page injured his calf. SS Brandon Meriweather could be facing a suspension after his helmet-to-helmet hit on Ravens TE Todd Heap, so safety is an area of concern for the Pats and Ventrone already knows their system from the summer.
