Panthers QB Matt Moore will start Sunday against San Francisco, head coach John Fox said Monday.

Moore, 26, began the season as the starter, but was benched in Week Two vs. Tampa Bay after completing 20-of-49 passes for 307 yards with one TD and four interceptions with two lost fumbles in the Panthers' first two games. Moore suffered a concussion in the Week One loss to the Giants but was able to play the following week vs. Tampa Bay.

Rookie Jimmy Clausen started three games in place of Moore but also struggled, completing 36-of-76 passes for 395 yards with one TD and two interceptions in his starts. He was sacked nine times in that span. Moore relieved Clausen in the Week Five loss to Chicago and threw two interceptions.

The winless Panthers are last in the NFL in yards per game, passing yards per game, average gain per pass play, percentage of passes intercepted, first downs per game, average gain per offensive play and points per game.

The way we see it

This isn't an especially surprising move, as Fox wouldn't commit to a Week Seven starter last week. Clausen remains the Panthers' quarterback of the future, as Moore is just on a one-year contract. Don't be surprised if Clausen gets another shot to play later in the season, but for now, Moore, who played well at the end of the '09 campaign, gets another chance.

Fantasy Spin

Neither Panthers QB is worth owning, and neither are any wideouts beside Steve Smith, who has been adversely affected by the poor QB play and is injured to boot.
