The Lions looked to improve their offense by acquiring TE Tony Scheffler in the offseason, and the move has paid dividends. Now it looks as though Scheffler will be in Detroit for a while.

The Denver Post reported Saturday that Scheffler has signed a three-year contract extension with the Lions. Scheffler is tied for fifth among NFL tight ends with 24 receptions in 2010.

Scheffler, who was drafted in the second round in 2006 by the Broncos, makes up one of the top TE tandems in the league alongside Brandon Pettigrew.

The way we see it

Scheffler has been great for the Lions, regaining some of the form he showed earlier in his career. With second-year QB Matthew Stafford, rookie RB Jahvid Best and star WR Calvin Johnson, the Lions have put together a pretty formidable offense for the future.
