The Colts' defense has been erratic thus far this season, but second-year CB Jerraud Powers continues to build off of his great rookie campaign. Powers has brought to the secondary the stability that one would typically expect from a veteran — head coach Jim Caldwell often refers to Powers as an "old soul." Although he is at less than 100 percent after offseason foot surgery — we hear it takes a full year to recover from the procedure Powers had in July — he hasn't skipped a beat. In fact, Powers has stepped up his game, showing a physicality and instinctiveness that has resulted in a lot of big plays for the defense early in the season. The way we hear it, Powers, who one day hopes to parlay his great football instincts into a coordinator position at his alma mater, Auburn University, has joined FS Antoine Bethea as the standouts in the back end.
